Community Service Recognition
Community service is defined
as “the act of voluntarily serving the community by giving one’s time,
energy, and talents toward helping individuals, groups, or the environment
without expecting anything in return.”
Therefore, at Jackson Prep, community service is not a graduation
requirement, but a voluntary choice students may make. Various independent community service
opportunities are posted on the daily bulletin and community service bulletin
board throughout the school year. There
are also school-sponsored projects and in-school service opportunities.
Students who perform
community service and turn in verification of this service are recognized at
the end of the year at class day and honors programs. Details of the requirements of this
recognition program may be found on page 7 of the student handbook or on the
Prep web site under the School Life, Community Service tab. The deadline for turning in all community
service verification sheets is April 15 of each school year. Hours accomplished after April 15 may be
applied to the next school year.
