Mission First

Each year Jackson Prep chooses a community partner in an effort to focus our community service projects in one direction.  This year’s partner is Mission First.

Mission First is a non-profit organization started by First Baptist Church of Jackson in 1997 to respond to the spiritual, physical, social, and educational needs and problems in the Jackson Metro area.  They provide Christian ministries, care, and assistance to people in need.  At their West Park Community Ministry Center, located in west Jackson, they have a medical/dental clinic and legal aid office that provides affordable services.  Also in the West Park facility they have a children’s after-school program called OASIS, a girls’ teen club, a sports ministry program, Bible studies, and youth choirs.

Jackson Prep students, parents, faculty, staff, and alumni have the opportunity to support our community partner in a multitude of ways.  Our students completed a school supply drive for OASIS in early November.  In late November through early December all Prep patrons can help by purchasing Christmas gifts for the children served at West Park.  On Martin Luther King Day, January 21, Prep will have a special project work day at the community center.  In April there will be a school-wide fundraiser for the Mission First sports ministry.  In addition, 20% of the junior class garage sale proceeds will be donated to Mission First this year.

Hands-on projects are being coordinated through the 9th grade and senior high Service Clubs.  Currently, the senior high club is planning a workshop for OASIS on December 5 for cheerleading, drama, and ultimate Frisbee.  The 9th grade club is coordinating a uniform drive.
