“ The best way to inspire people to superior performance is to convince them by everything you do and by your everyday attitude that you are wholeheartedly supporting them.”

To have an influence on the next generation is truly a great privilege and responsibility. I love teaching, and I feel that this school is where I can best serve that calling. My teaching career began at Jackson Prep  sixteen years ago. However, my love for this school began when I searched for a secondary school for my own children. All three of my children are Prep graduates and each found an accepting, safe and caring environment in which to develop and to grow into wonderful adults.

Having a Biology degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, my responsibilities at Jackson Prep have included teaching Life Science, Earth Science, and Perspectives on Health. I have done graduate work at the University of Alabama and Mississippi College. This year, I enjoy co-sponsoring the junior high student council with Amy Wiandt.

My husband, Jim Tatum, has been my best friend for over 30 years. He is truly a wonderful and patient man! I am so honored to share his life. We attend First Baptist Church of Jackson where I have taught third grade Sunday school for approximately 20 years. My husband also loves working with young people and served as Scoutmaster of Troop 8, First Baptist Church, for seven years.

My interests are enjoying activities with my family. Whether we are  hiking, biking, cooking or just catching up on news of the week, activities with them are by far my favorite way to spend time.

“If the roots are deep and strong, the tree needn’t worry about the wind.”

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord…He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8.
