Hunter Upchurch received a B.A. in History and Spanish and M.A. in History from the University of Mississippi. As a graduate student, he worked as a teaching assistant in the History Department and conducted extensive research in Latin American history. He also worked as the curator of the Greenwood Blues and Heritage Museum. Hunter has traveled, studied, or volunteered in Mexico, Central America, and Spain. He believes that living in a Spanish-speaking country is the most effective and enriching way of learning Spanish. In keeping with this philosophy, Hunter has helped implement a study abroad program for Spanish students at Jackson Prep. During the summers of 2010 and 2011, he traveled with Prep students to Salamanca, Spain, for a two-and-a-half week immersion program that included college-level courses at the University of Salamanca and a homestay with a Spanish family. Hunter currently teaches Spanish II and several elective courses, including Introduction to World Religions and The History of Early Christianity. He is from Greenwood, MS, and is married to the former Caroline McKibben, a 2001 Jackson Prep graduate. Hunter has taught at Jackson Prep since 2008.
