Spencer Powers - Mathematics
Spencer Powers was born in Jackson, Mississippi, and he has spent most of his life in the Jackson area. He graduated from Jackson Prep in 1990 and from Millsaps College, where he majored in psychology, in 1994. After working in the mental health field and other areas for many years, Spencer attended Mississippi College School of Law, from which he graduated in 2002. Soon after graduation, Spencer began his four years of teaching various courses at the Education Center School. He later became an online textbook writer and editor for New Learning Resources. In his time at the company, he wrote the original drafts of four online textbooks and co-wrote one, and all five of the works are now used by the Job Corps. After a period of working for Huntington Learning Center in Cedar Park, Texas, a suburb of Austin, Spencer returned to the Jackson area and began a one month substitute teaching job at Jackson Prep. He was soon hired to teach full time at Prep, where he presently teaches Trigonometry and Advanced Algebra as well as Senior Algebra. Spencer has also worked at various times as a substitute teacher at multiple schools and as a private tutor. In his personal life, he loves to bike and has deep passions for historic music and paintings as well as other art forms. He also enjoys writing surreal poetry and prose.
