Trudy Powers is starting her thirtieth year at Prep this year. She is the Head of the Junior High and serves on Prep’s Leadership Team. For her first eighteen years at Prep, Trudy directed the Support Services program for students with learning differences. In Student and Family Services, Trudy coordinated Prep’s counseling programs and offered special programs, workshops, and services for both students and parents, and she directed Prep’s Community Service programs.

Trudy earned a B.A. degree from Millsaps College in Psychology, with a minor in Education, and an M.A. degree from the University of Mississippi in Community Counseling, with a minor in Special Education. She has been in the field of education for forty years, and has taught and counseled elementary, secondary, and college students in private and public schools. Trudy’s real passion is to recognize the potential in students and to assist them in developing that potential. She freely gives of her time to guide and support students, parents, and faculty. Her favorite quote is by Churchill: “We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.” Another favorite quote regarding persistence is that of George Bernard Shaw, the first to receive both a Nobel Prize and an Oscar: “When I was a young man, I observed that nine out of ten things I did were failures. I didn’t want to be a failure, so I did ten times more work.” Trudy often uses this quote to motivate junior high students to work hard and develop their skills. Without a strong work ethic, natural talent cannot be appreciated.

Trudy is married to Dave Powers, a clinical psychologist and private consultant. They have three children: Spencer, age 39; Adam, age 35; and McLaine, age 30. They have one grandchild, Aden Powers, age 8. Trudy enjoys the most being with family and friends whenever time allows.
