Marti teaches Earth Science and AP Environmental Science at Jackson Prep. A native of El Paso, Texas, she is an 8th grade class sponsor as well as the sponsor for the junior high Morning Watch Committee and the senior high Environmental Science Club.  Marti and her husband Will, (occasional Earth Science substitute teacher) have three daughters who are all Prep graduates (one in graduate school at Vanderbilt and two attend Millsaps), two Siamese cats, a Labrador retriever, and a hybrid beagle. Peace and harmony permeates the household!

A recipient of a B.S. in General Science/Chemistry from Mississippi State University, Marti is also a graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso School of Medical Technology. She recently completed her Master's degree in Geoscience from MSU.

She began her professional career as a registered medical technologist at the University of Mississippi Medical Center Children's Hospital Cancer Clinic. Marti also served as program director and instructor in the MLT program at Hinds Community College. She is now in her 13th year at Jackson Prep.

Marti has many interests outside of science.  She enjoys playing the flute, reading, and cooking (with Southwestern cuisine being her specialty).  Pleasure is always a part of teaching as evidenced by her interest in rock strata laid visible by road cuts. Her daughters have always been anxious to stop and view this geological handwork while on family vacations. Please note the use of irony as a literary tool!
