Jackson Prep’s REVEILLON
Wins Mississippi Showchoir Contest’s
GRAND CHAMPION

From the stages of Broadway to the award-winning stages of the regional showchoir circuit, Jackson Prep Reveillon has steadily been recognized as a group on the rise.

Over the weekend Reveillon, under the direction of Dianne Pittman Holbert, was named Grand Champion of the Mississippi Showchoir Contest held at William Carey University in Hattiesburg. The group, made up of 44 singers/dancers, 10 set crew members, and 14 band members also captured awards for Best Vocals, Best Show Design, and Best Visuals.

This year’s competition show includes selections from the Broadway musicals, Jersey Boys and Catch Me If You Can. Earlier this fall, members of Reveillon traveled to New York City where they had the opportunity to participate in several Broadway workshops.

“Our students had the opportunity to work with original cast members from Jersey Boys and Catch Me If You Can,” said Holbert, 2011 National Showchoir Director of the Year. “They were able to bring what they learned in those workshops home to Mississippi to the competition stage.”

This year’s show, according to Holbert, is a theatrical production complete with sets, effects, and multi-colored costumes.
“The closer for our show, Live in Living Color from Catch Me If You Can includes exquisite costumes and an explosion of color on stage,” Holbert continued.

Holbert noted that she begins working with arrangers and choreographers in the summer to create a competition show which is approximately 18-20 minutes long.

“It’s a creative process which takes many months to refine before you have a product ready to put on the stage. Our kids are amazingly talented. They are a fantastic group of students.”

Reveillon, completing its second week of competition, will participate in several more regional competitions before heading to Orlando, Florida, where they will compete in the FAME National Competition on March 31. They will also perform a community show at Jackson Prep’s Fortenberry Auditorium on February 28 and March 1 at 7 p.m. each night. Tickets for this can be obtained by calling the ticket line 769-798-9500.

According to showchoirranksystem.com Prep is ranked 21st in the nation.
