2008-09 Step Outside Your World

PREP JUNIOR HIGH PARTNERS WITH SALVATION ARMY

Jackson Prep Junior High recently partnered with the Salvation Army on a project called Step Outside of Your World. Students brought old shoes to school, and the Salvation Army collected the shoes to sell to a recycler. The monies obtained from that sale will enable the Salvation Army to give out gift cards for Payless Shoes to needy families to purchase new shoes. The Prep students collected 1,303 pairs of shoes. The three homerooms that collected the most shoes were treated to chicken biscuits donated by Chick-fil-A. Pictured (l to r) are several students collecting shoes: Nahban Karim, Zack Watson, Mary Frances Weeks, Lamar Phillips and Catherine Wohner.

PREP ANNOUNCES NATIONAL MERIT SEMIFINALISTS

The Jackson Preparatory School class of 2009, with 10 National Merit Semifinalists, continues a Jackson Prep tradition of outstanding performance in the National Merit Scholarship program. Since 1970, Jackson Prep has produced 498 National Merit Semifinalists. More than 1.5 million juniors in nearly 21,000 U.S. high schools entered the 2009 National Merit Program by taking the 2007 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, which represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state. Pictured are Prep’s National Merit Semifinalists. Row 1 (l to r): Ramsey Frey, Ellen Haick, Catherine Mounger, Miriam Taylor, Katherine Lindell and Laurel Lackey. Row 2 (l to r): Jared Moffat, Matthew Valentine, David Zhang and Farris Antoon.
