PREP STUDENTS COMPETE AT MPSEA SPELLING BEE        

Two Jackson Prep junior high students competed and placed in the MPSEA District III Spelling Bee that was held on Tuesday, March 10 at Pinelake Elementary School.  Taylor Zhang placed first in the seventh grade division, and Mary Morgan Haire placed third in eighth grade division. Both students will advance to the overall competition in April at First Presbyterian Day School. Mary Morgan Haire was also first runner-up at the Rankin County Spelling Bee. JACKSON PREP INITIATES NJHS MEMBERS

The Jackson Prep chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) held its annual initiation ceremony on February 26. NJHS is an active academic honorary and service organization open to eighth and ninth graders.  New members are pictured. PREP AWARD-WINNING DRAMA ONE ACT TEAM

Prep’s Drama One Act Team competed at the Mississippi Theater Association Regional Festival in the One Act Competition in November at MSU. The team performed Three by Ives and won the Festival Spirit Award for Tech Crew and the Distinguished Play Award for the whole team. They advanced to the State Festival in January in Natchez. Emma Freundt received the All Star Cast Award at Natchez, and Alex Thiel won the All Star Cast Award at Starkville. Pictured are the team members. Row 1 (l to r): Anna Russell and Cassie Freundt. PREP 2008-09 SIXTH GRADE BOYS’ BASKETBALL TEAM UNDEFEATED

Jackson Prep’s sixth grade boys’ basketball team, coached by Bruce Warf, ended its season with a record of 13-0. They competed against teams in the metro area. PREP SENIORS NAMED STAR STUDENTS

Jackson Prep seniors Katherine Lindell and David Zhang have been named STAR students by the Mississippi Economic Council’s M.B. Swayze Educational Foundation, sponsor of the STAR program. STAR Students are selected on the basis of academic excellence. Both American College Test scores and scholastic averages are compared to determine the school’s STAR Student. Each STAR Student is asked to designate a STAR Teacher, the classroom teacher who has made the greatest contribution to the student’s scholastic achievement.  Katherine designated Mrs. Lou Ann McKibben as her STAR Teacher, and David designated Dr. Lisa Whitney as his STAR Teacher.
