The Presidential Scholars Program is a national program established by
executive order of the President of the United States to recognize and honor
some of our Nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. Two
students from each state, one male and one female, are selected each year
on the basis of broad academic achievement. Up to 20 additional scholars
may be chosen, at large, on the basis of their academic and artistic
scholarship in the visual arts, the performing arts, or creative writing.
Presidential Scholars are guests of the Commission on Presidential Scholars in
Washington, D.C. One highlight of their visit to Washington is the White House
ceremony at which they are awarded the Presidential Scholars medallion.
