PREP 2008 VALEDICTORIAN AND SALUTATORIAN

Jackson Preparatory School recently named Chris Russell (right) as Valedictorian of the Class of 2008. John Harrison York (left) was named Salutatorian. In the fall Chris will attend Georgia Institute of Technology. John Harrison will attend the Washington University in St. Louis.

PREP SIXTH GRADER PLACES SECOND AT OVERALL SPELLING BEE

Jackson prep student Taylor Zhang placed second in the Mississippi Private School Education Association Overall Spelling Bee in the sixth grade at First Presbyterian Day School on April 15.

PJACKSON PREP EIGHT GRADER EXCELS AT MATHCOUNTS

Jackson prep eighth grader Ariel Cheng placed second in the state MathCounts competition held on Saturday, March 29. She won an all-expense paid trip to Denver, where she will compete in the National MathCounts contest May 8-11.

PREP AP PHYSICS CLASS VISITS NASA

Jackson Prep's AP Physics class spent 2 days over Spring Break touring NASA in Houston. The group enjoyed a Level 9 tour, the highest level tour offered. Highlights of the trip included the Sonny Carter Training Facility Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory, Historic Mission Control, which was used for Gemini and Apollo missions, and Current Day Mission Control, where the students watched astronauts preparing to disembark the space shuttle from the international space station. On the second day, they visited with Prep graduate Casey Brister (Class of 1997), who is in charge of instrumentation for Schlumberger in Houston. PREP SCHOLARS INDUCTED INTO CUM LAUDE

On April 1, the Jackson Prep chapter of Cum Laude Society inducted twenty-five members of the Classes of 2008 and 2009. Cum Laude Society is an honorary society modeled on Phi Beta Kappa, which encourages and recognizes true scholarship while striving to encourage qualities of excellence, justice and honor. Mr. Dudley Wooley, President/Chief Operating Officer at Ross & Yerger Insurance Agency, was the keynote speaker. Wooley is a 1984 graduate of Prep and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Pictured are the inductees.
