![](news/0607pres%20scholar%20candidates.jpg)
Jackson Prep seniors Sam Beck and Joseph Dale have been selected as
Presidential Scholars candidates. The United States Presidential Scholars
Program was established in 1964, by Executive Order of the President,
to recognize and honor some of our Nation’s most distinguished graduating
high school seniors. The Scholars Program represents excellence in education
and the promise of greatness in young people. They are selected on the
basis of broad academic achievement, academic and artistic scholarship
in the visual arts, the performing arts, or creative writing, and leadership,
and involvement in school and the community. The White House Commission
will choose one young man and one young woman from each state to receive
Presidential Scholars honors. The winners from each state will be invited
to Washington to accept their awards in June. Pictured (l to r) are
