Begun in August, 2006, our Sixth Grade Program brings new enthusiasm
to Jackson Prep. The students have their core academic subjects taught
in newly constructed classrooms atop the McRae Administration Building,
giving them a level of independence from the schedule of the upper grades.
Parents who are looking for a smaller and carefully structured way to
phase their children into the enhanced expectations of the Prep curriculum
would do well to investigate our Sixth Grade Program for their children.
Once again, enrollment in the Sixth Grade will be limited to 40 students.
Admission to Sixth Grade
An Application
for Admission to the Sixth Grade Program may be submitted beginning
in September prior to the year of initial enrollment. Admission testing
will take place on several dates.
To reserve a place for the test, please submit the R.S.V.P.

Save a copy of your 5th grader’s first term report card for submission
with the application. These items may be brought to Jackson Prep on
the day of the admission test or mailed in advance to the Office of
Admissions, Jackson Preparatory School, P. O. Box 4940, Jackson, MS
39296-4940.

Grade appropriate reading materials are available to sixth graders,
as is a reference collection for use in their core curriculum. Subscription-based
computer research databases are available to all Prep students in the
Library and through the internet for home use. These services are password
protected. The Library opens at 7:30 a.m. and closes at 3:30 p.m. on
Mondays and Fridays and at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday. Sixth graders

to facilitate their independence. Their first class begins at 8:00 a.m.
and the last class ends at 2:30 p.m.
AFTER SCHOOL CARE
There is plenty of room for sixth graders in our newly enhanced After
School Care Program. Provisions are made for sixth graders to participate
from 2:30 until 6:00 p.m. There are opportunities for study hall, tutoring
and extra-curricular activities as the program expands to meet student
interests. Currently, Prep offers lessons in basic guitar and karate.
FACULTY
Eighty-five dedicated and experienced educators comprise the Prep faculty
and professional staff, including 42 who have earned post-graduate degrees.
Six faculty members hold Ph.D. degrees. The student/faculty ratio is
11:1. The sixth grade faculty is committed to ensuring a well-rounded
experience for their students and will be fully accessible to parents
in the same manner as are the rest of our faculty and staff.
