1970
• Workers finish construction of the high school building,
football stadium, and field house.
• Jackson Prep opens the doors in September.
• The Parent-Teacher Organization donates $18,000 to the
new library.

1971
• Prep erects the junior high building to accommodate a
growing enrollment.
• School enrollment increases from 644 to 966 after the first
school year.
• The Patriots football team celebrates an undefeated year.

1972
• Prep adds the cafeteria, baseball field, track, tennis courts,
band room, and choir room to its growing campus.

1979
• The Pearl River floods, and the Prep community rallies to
recover and reopen 18 days later.
• Prep opens the new gymnasium and auditorium and
expands the library.

1987
• Jesse Howell retires as the first Headmaster.
• Michael Pratt begins as new Headmaster.

1992
• Rob Gustafson joins Prep as its third Headmaster.
• Prep launches the “Setting the Standard for Tomorrow” Capital
Campaign, ultimately securing more than $3 million for
campus additions and renovations.

1997
• Jim Roberts and Susan Lindsay serve as Co-Headmasters
after Rob Gustafson’s tenure.

1998
• Bill McGee joins Prep as Headmaster and launches the
Vision and Values long-range planning.
• Prep dedicates the McRae Center that houses the
administrative offices, Hederman Media Center, McCravey
Art Gallery, and Howell Library.

2000
• Prep equips teachers with pagers and laptops and becomes
the first school in Mississippi to install a wireless internet network.

2004
• Susan Lindsay continues her service to Prep by beginning
her new role as Head of School.

2005
• Prep celebrates the dedication of the Guyton Science Building.
